So what is "VIP Drift"? The truth be told, we're not really sure ourselves. Quite often, no matter what genre you're looking at, the latest trends and styles may be blatantly obvious to the eye, yet have no generic term and can be most annoyingly difficult to explain in simple words. This month, this is exactly what caused me to bang my head against the office wall for several days while poor Ti Tong sat waiting for cover lines. It's not always that simple. A modified phenomenon has emerged in Japan and while we've seen it, and you might of, it's now seemingly hitting the U.S market and we had to jump on a piece of it and of course spread the word. I use "the word" tentatively. You see, it ain't called VIP Drift, that was simply the two common denominators that wouldn't go away over the past couple of weeks. I'm not sure what to really call it and it seems no one else is either. Sources in Japan inform us that the hardcore drift alliance from the Osaka region claim to of initiated the trend. This new style incorporates popular drift-oriented platforms that while maintaining plenty of high-performance attributes, they've been "polished up" with a little bling. This month's cover car is a perfect example. The gaping wheels still ooze the mad lip synonymous with drift cars but the blinding chrome and flared-spoke choice of wheel are more in line with those off an Escalade. They're like mini Dubs but almost as wide as they are tall. In description it sounds horrendous, but like so many trends Japan's enthusiasts enlighten us with, it somehow works. Now it's like these guys are drifting in luxury but with other traits such as full interiors featuring cup holders and even tray tables they sure are getting sideways with an all-new style. Or in actuality a VIP style.
So God knows what it's really called or even what it really is. My guess is that it's probably far from defined yet and will even take on it's own twist as it tangles with the U.S market over the next year or two. For now we're gonna stick with VIP Drift, or as someone else here suggested-Bippu Drifto ! Enjoy.
