You know what I'm thinking as I sit here trying to write out this story? I'm thinking that no one really reads this lonely little byline that comes before all of the pictures of the cars, the girls, the manufacturer booths, the girls, the dance floor, the girls, and everything else that you would expect to find at Hot Import Nights. I could put anything I want in this little section and there probably won't even be one astute reader to catch it. And who's to blame? I'm not sure about you people out there but for me it plays out like this: If you put three paragraphs of fine print next to three pictures of show cars and dancing women, I would be more inclined to look at the dancing women. Hell, I love to read, but some things just don't need any explaining. Like pictures of dancing women...
On the other hand, if I just used this space to ramble on about nothing in particular, somebody somewhere is going to catch on and I could get in big trouble. "Big trouble" means I won't get paid to fly out to different cities across the nation to take pictures of what are, essentially, large parties with girls and cars. "Big trouble" means I'll be resigned to a "Desk Only" job, sipping Cokes and surfing the web to see girls (instead of seeing them in all their half-clothed glory at Hot Import Nights). So, on that note, I'm going to cover my ass and give you some facts about this event. If you've read this far, you can stand to read a little more.
Fact: Hot Import Nights is a Vision Entertainment venture. It is steadily growing in attendance, vendor participation, and display car quality. Fact: On Saturday, October 6, the San Mateo Expo in San Mateo, Calif., was the latest pit-stop for the national H.I.N. tour. Fact: Quite a few of our very own 2NR cover models were in attendance. Fact: The things that people are doing to their cars these days is incredible, and this is no more evident than at a car show of this caliber. Fact: I could use this space to work on my "ghetto slang" to raise my street credibility, using words and phrases like "phat," "dope," "supa-fly," and "da bomb shizzee," but I live in the suburbs and therefore have no street credibility. Fact: San Mateo means "Saint Matthew" in Spanish. Fact: There were no saints present at Hot Import nights, although there were quite a few "Holy--" exclamations heard, especially in the large groups of testosterone that seemed to pool around each of the numerous models in attendance. Fact: Even if it happens to be your job, your girlfriend will never forgive you for taking pictures of another woman. Fact: If you are still reading at this point, you need to seriously re-evaluate your social life. Get off your ass, pull out your calendar, and check when and where the next Hot Import Nights stop is going to be. Then, hop in your car and go there. Reading might be fundamental, but ogling is just plain fun.
