As expected, the folks at Import Showoff delivered the latest in the competitive auto fashion circuit, with row upon row of glorious showcars. Hybrid body conversions and full multimedia systems were the order of the day, while the "snakeskin paint job" look seemed to be growing in popularity. Super clean race cars showed that "utility" doesn't necessarily rhyme with "ugly," with interior and exterior schemes that look good in the showroom and work well on the track.
How does it feel when you got no sun? Just ask anyone that attended the season finale Import Showoff Classic in Pomona, Calif. Spirits were high as everyone prepared to close out 2001 and ring in the new year, but the only ringing to be done was the wringing of towels to dry the show cars. Still, in spite of the rain, everyone managed to have a splashing-in-the-puddles good time.
Now that the import scene has matured a bit, it's clear to see that cars aren't the only focus of those involved. The lifestyle and the culture that surrounds the cars is growing, too, and what better place to showcase new talent in the music and dance fields than at a car show. The stage was the place to be to check out two upcoming musical acts and some wild gyrations from the dance crews.
Of course, what would a car show be without models parading to and fro? Not much, we would say, but don't expect that from Import Showoff crew--one of the originators of the import show scene--because they delivered the goods. Miss Import Showoff 2002 Flo Jalin made her appearance and posed all day long at the Showoff booth for showgoers and photographers alike. In addition, company-sponsored models and women hoping for that lucrative modeling offer were making their rounds for the cameras as well.
