On Saturday, March 8, The BEAT Los Angeles and Falken Tire presented the official IXS 2003, which took place at the L.A. Convention Center from 3 p.m. to 12 a.m. With a number of interactive stage events ranging from alternative bands and rappers to booty and model contests, IXS kept the crowds banging throughout the night. With thousands of dollars up for grabs in cash and prizes, the import community brought out hundreds of its hottest cars, including Hondas, SUVs and Euros. Did anyone spot the yellow Civic with BMW 7 Series headlights? Now that was sick! Even with a large indoor arena, cars were positioned so closely together it looked like gridlocked traffic on the Interstate 5 freeway.
2NR's very own import model, Mary J. Castillo, was on hand to give one lucky spectator a chance to win a date with her. Chat rooms and message boards all over the Internet were in a full frenzy prior to the show, as one entry stated he would sell his car just to win the contest to go out with her. Now, if that isn't dedication (or psycho madness) we don't know what is. Congrats go out to Cassidy Marsh from Ventura County for winning the date with Mary (lucky bastard).
The most talked-about event taking place at IXS wasn't the car show or the DJs spinning the ones and twos--it was the lingerie contest presented by Trashy.com. What is it about scantily clad women in thongs and G-strings that cause pimply faced boys to shoot right past puberty? If you attended the show, then you'd know why "Rosy Palm and her five sisters" were readily used to calm sexual frustrations back home.
Import Xtreme Showdown was arguably the most diverse show yet, covering events and spectator interactions the import community hasn't seen in a while. Keep your eyes and ears open for the next scheduled event.
