For the fourth year in a row, Tuner Galleria took over the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Chi-town and officially kicked off the car show season for 2013. Every year the turnout and support for this event grows, and this year was no exception. The showroom floor was more saturated than it has ever been. A plethora of vehicles rolled in, ranging from immaculately clean JDM nostalgia to track-ready BMWs and high-end exotics. The annual collaboration of Tuner Galleria and World of Wheels brings in just under 100,000 spectators over the weekend. The combination of tuner cars, hot rods, lowriders, and other classics creates a type of synergy that attracts all breeds of automotive enthusiasts. Team Project X was present with a fleet of fine vehicles that they perfected over the winter. Jay Jancetic’s immaculate twin-turbo Nismo 370Z took home Best Nissan, while Hector Perez’s Turbo 350Z took Third for Best Shop Vehicle. This event marks the second year in a row that Project X has taken a Best Nissan award. Team Nostalgic came out of the woodwork with a handful of clean Corollas and a beautiful Datsun 510 and swept the Best Nostalgic/Classic category. Armando Nanalig from Ill Garage claimed Best Acura with his iconic ITR. Brian Vela’s Nissan Silvia was a new entry this year and landed him the Best Rising Star award. The Chii Racing Toyota Supras owned by Chris Ocampo and Pras Kroun were back again with Pras sniping another Best Toyota win for the second year in a row. John Toca showed up with a decked-out FR-S and took Best Scion. That award should look great sitting next to the Best Scion award he won last year for his tC. The crowd was treated not only to automotive eye candy, but also to the beautiful women of the Tuner Galleria model lounge. Falken Tire provided generous amounts of swag for the ladies to pass out to the eager crowd. Equilibrium USG was also on site, displaying their line of modular backpacks that many of the models displayed for eager photographers. They also raffled off a full pack system to one lucky winner. Tuner Galleria came, saw, and conquered in Chi-town, again. It has proven that it will continue to be the spring thawing of the frozen car show season after a long Chicago winter.
