Subaru Summer Solstice 2014 Details:
- 6th annual event held this year at Marina Green Park, Long Beach, CA
- Hundreds of Subaru on display
- Event also featured vendors, raffles, music, and food trucks
Over the past few years, I'd heard about the annual Subaru Summer Solstice event but never actually attended. Wanting to break that streak, I made my way to Marina Green Park on gorgeous Shoreline Drive in Long Beach, Calif. on June 28th, the event's new home after a stint at the Port of Los Angeles in previous years. Having read about the get together online in the past, I knew the turnout would be great. Along with a general meet for all Subaru models, the Subaru Summer Solstice organizers also brought in vendors, food trucks, a DJ and even held a large-scale raffle for attendees.

When I first arrived, I was a little worried about parking as the waterfront off of Shoreline can become incredibly congested on nice days like this one, but I was happy to find that parking was just across the street and after validating my pass on the boardwalk, it was only a dollar. Subaru Summer Solstice itself is completely free to spectators, with only those parking inside the actual event required to pay. As I entered Marina Green Park, a large semi-circle was formed by a number of highly modified Subies that grabbed the crowd's attention almost immediately. Just beyond that area sat row after row of sedans, wagons, BRZs, SVXs, even a wild 360 van that had everyone smiling.
Aggressive aero and low offset wheels, as well as wild, extended exhaust finishers were scattered throughout the park, along with some very clean and simple builds to give spectators a nice variety. Toward the end of the day, as the sun won its battle with a bit of afternoon overcast, awards were handed out and included: Best Impreza, Best BRZ, Best S3 Impreza, Best Flush, Best Legacy, Best of Show, Best RS, Best Forester, Best Track, Best Stanced, Dirtiest Subaru and People's Choice. After six successful events that only seem to grow with each passing year, you can bet that the seventh installment of the Subaru Summer Solstice will be even bigger.
