One requires split-second reflexes and motors pushing hp to its ragged metal edges. The other, controlling what is in essence out of control, and pushing traction to its rubbery edges. There's an unspoken rivalry between the two motorsports with an inconclusive answer on who's better-until now.
What started out as a friendly competition between the Battle of the Imports straight line drag racers and Formula D sliding drifters at the plush indoor go-kart track, Pole Position in Las Vegas, NV, turned into an all out clash for ultimate bragging rights. Being that most of the drifters have extensive road racing backgrounds, the odds were stacked against the drag racers.
After the qualifying sessions, everyone was broken into two different groups. The A group consisted of the top 8 quickest times and the B was the slower half.
The B group had some famous name like the Choi brothers (Frank and Mike), Chris Rado, Jeremy Lookofsky, Kenny Tran and Sportsman racer Jason Park. Jason bullied his way to the front and claimed victory for the drag racing team. A notable performance came from fellow drag racer, Mike Choi, who finished dead last... and was lapped to boot. Good try, Mike!
The A group had some impressive Formula D names such as Conrad Grunewald, Blake Fuller and last year's champion Tanner Foust. On the drag camp, there was Derrick Lamb from Lamb Components and the multi-championship winning Ed Bergenholtz. Once the finals started, Tanner took the early lead, but by the fifth lap, the underdog drag racer, Ed Bergenholtz, passed up the drifter and continued to extend his lead. During the final lap, Ed started waving and pumping his fist in the air as he past the crowd. In the end, it was straight line driving long shot, Ed Bergenholtz who dominated over the rest of the competition. Surprisingly, the reigning Formula D champion, Tanner Foust, came in Third after Derrick Lamb.
