Though few and far between, there are some truly fun days of the week in this line of work. Usually when NOS Energy Drink gets involved, and every single time they hit us up to go karting—especially when it’s to try our hand at embarrassing some celebrities and a NASCAR professional in competition.
This time it was a kick-off to the recent NASCAR weekend at California Speedway, and to celebrate, NOS-sponsored drivers Kyle Busch and Formula D’s Chris Forsberg invited 30 industry drivers (us included) to Ontario’s K1 Speed for some quick driver training and about 30-some laps around the indoor circuit to battle each other, as well as actor William Fichtner (the blind scientist from Contact—not blind in real life, duh), model/actress Kimberly Leemans (CSI Miami; How to Make it in America), MMA fighter Josh Barnett (big dude!), and Chef Holli (Hell’s Kitchen winner).
Drivers were divided into three run groups, with the top three qualifiers going on to Final competition (we placed Fourth in ours—doh!). Chris and Kyle made the cut, as did FD’s Joon Maeng, and number-one Qualifier Hankook Tire’s Paul Jho. Kyle took top honors in the end, followed by Joon and young protégé Zac Bogner, but the real winner was the Kyle Busch Foundation, coming up $10K, courtesy of NOS.
