Further driving home the point that properly tuned Japanese imports can decimate all and drive home afterward, an R35 GT-R equipped with an AMS Alpha 9 package, fielded by TopSpeed Motorsports, has not only survived the nine-race, time-attack/drag/skidpad/highway event that is Brock Yates’ One Lap of America (OLOA), it outperformed over 80 other high-dollar, highly tuned, über-reliable competing cars to do it, and even broke an OLOA drag racing record in the process.
Some fun facts: AMS’ Alpha 9 package is good for 900 horses (800 on pump gas), and has propelled GT-Rs to 9-second quarter-miles—outrunning even the mighty $1.5 million Bugatti Veyron—with zero driveability compromises. As evidenced by this performance.
Another fun fact: OLOA competitors are required to drive their cars more than 3,500 miles to compete in events spread out across the eastern United States, in only eight days, on one set of tires.
