Nissan 300ZX - Flying Z
A Naturally Aspirated 300Z Burnin Up The Streets Of Philly

There's a lot to be said for this Z's exterior looks, and while the factory finished version is about as sleek and trim a car as you can find, a few well placed mods do a lot to improve the car's aggression factor. Most prominent on Hieu's list is the APR GT-II adjustable aluminum wing perched in the rear, up top a modified rear end that flaunts Japan-spec taillights and Wings West Type-W bumper. Wings West side skirts continue the theme, but for a custom look Nguyen had a Bomex bumper grafted in place of the Wings West front piece. A custom G2 aluminum mesh grille, Stillen louver panel and J-spec corner markers further conspire to alter the sedate Nissan front end and turn the car into something a bit more show worthy. All lighting has been upgraded, Philips HIDs in the headlamps and hyper white bulbs everywhere else.
Beneath the panels, which were bathed in an eye-catching mixture of DuPont blue pearl over red once all modifications were in place, a set of Eibach Pro Kit springs and KYB adjustables drop the Z over 18-in. Racing Hart C2 wheels at all four corners. Nitto rubber provides the contact patch, sized 235/40 in front and 275/35 in the rear. Upgraded brake assemblies are caged behind this big rolling stock, KVR cross-drilled rotors up front and Powerstop cross-drilled rotors in the rear; these discs are clamped by Axxis metallic pads when the time comes to lay on the binders.
It's funny, but when I talked to Hieu on the phone he was pretty fired up to be talking to a magazine...but the thing he was fired up about most was his RX7, which is still in the works. He is not about to sell the Z, as it is his first real street performance car, but the Mazda, he tells us, is being engineered not just for street use but for "ultimate performance." I'd ask him a question about the Z, and he'd answer, then go off talking about the RX7 again; the man was obsessed. Maybe sometime soon Import Tuner will have the privilege of featuring the '7 in an upcoming issue. In the meantime, this blazing street-prepped 300ZX will have to do.
