A few weeks later, nearly a year after he had first decided to order it, Lee's long-anticipated body kit finally showed up in North America. When it got here, Lee hired TPR Motorsports in Van Nuys to install it. TPR also shaved the car's side markers and added C-West carbon-fiber canards and OEM JDM clear-corner headlamps to the front end. At this point, Lee decided he wanted some new wheels, so he bolted up a set of modest 17-in. gold Advan RGs which he wrapped in Nitto NT555 rubber.
With the body kit and new wheels in place, the car's stock ride height became increasingly noticeable, so Lee hit up the Spoon Sports catalog once again for the requisite suspension components to bring the S2000's underpinnings up to speed with the rest of it. Spoon springs and Showa dampers accomplish the lowering bit, and an array of Spoon tie bars collaborate to make the car even stiffer than it had been built in the factory-if that's at all possible.
It was also around this time Lee picked up his first official project sponsors. Though he said he had a lot of sponsorship hits at shows and the like, he was very selective on which deals he accepted. Three companies stood out from the rest. The first was Tee's USA, which hooked him up with a pair of Bride Ergo seats to replace his stock buckets. Lee strapped these with Takata harnesses to keep occupants firmly planted during spirited driving sessions, then finished the interior off with a Spoon steering wheel and NSX-R titanium shift knob. The stereo was upgraded modestly with a Kenwood MP3 player and Eclipse front speakers.
Lee's other two sponsors helped him in an area heretofore untouched: the brakes. Rotora provided a set of slotted rotors for the front assemblies, while Endless provided a quartet of high-performance brake pads for both the front and rear brakes.
So far, Lee said he's entered every local show for the past year and will continue to do the same for the next season...and the season after that. "No trophies yet," he said, "but I've achieved my number one goal, which was to have the car published." Not only that, it's now published in 2NR. Lee would like to thank a few key people in getting this project up off the ground: Chuck and Rocky at Showstoppers and Elton at Raceline for hookups with the Spoon goods; his club Team Hybrid for the support; Allen and Bun at Tee's for the seats; Loren at Rotora for the discs; Ivan at 5Zigen for interior amenities; and the crew at Carisma. If cleanliness really is next to godliness, this is one heavenly S2000 to be sure.
