1:33 PMThe guy in the WRX wanted to race me again so I accepted. That time I feel asleep at the light. 1.020 light 13.41 to a 13.73. Who cares about the light, I still won!
1:34 PMI finally decided to shut the car off to cool it off a bit.
2:26 PMThe track announceed that they were closing early today so I squeezed one more run in.
2:34 PM Last run is a solo run. 13.31 @ 101 again.
2:35 PMTesting is done so I retire the STi for the day.
Day Four (Sunday)10:00 AMI stopped by dirt bike pro, Guy Battaglia, to pick him up for our next mission. I tested it on the road but this time we were putting the car in the dirt to see what it was designed for.
10:14 AMSince the DCCD worked so well on the autocross but not on the drag strip we decided that we would do the same on the dirt. That was a mistake. The car just wanted to pitch sideway through the turns but on a few tight turns it did help out. Considering the car doesn't come stock on rally tires we were surprised it actually had a lot of control on the dirt.
10:35 AMAfter the first couple of passes we found that the DCCD worked well on LOCK and on AUTO. We left it on AUTO since it made driving it easier.
10:36 AMGuy Battaglia, rally champion in his own world, isn't much of a photographer and I'm pretty good at pretending to be one, I decided to let Guy drive the car in the turns while I shot the pictures. For the record, he is the better driver on the dirt but check out those dope ass pictures!
1:30 PMTesting done. I head home and realize the STi just raised the bar.
End ResultPros: The DCCD comes in handy for the different types of terrain you encounter but sometimes it's best left untouched. The low end torque pretty much demolishes turbo lag and top end power feels as if the RPM needs to be taken higher. Now the six speed, Holy Shit... I never thought that an AWD tranny could take so much abuse! From AWD burnouts to getting slideways around an apex, this tranny is bad ass! The rumors are definitely true.
Cons: I don't like how the car uses side-feed injectors now and the drive-by-wire system. Call me old school but that's technology I don't want to deal with just yet. I wish the car came with a better clutch too. Subaru has to understand that most people who buy this car are gonna abuse it, so they should beef it up from the start.
