Shinkansen - 1998 Honda Civic Hatchback
Wai Started Off With His Project The Way Most Car Guys Do, By Finding A Neglected Beater To Love And Call His Own
With no more room to fit any JDM Type-R pieces, Wai turned to the exterior. From JDM Autoparts came a Civic Type-R front grille, headlights, front lip, and side door moldings. Spoon Sports carbon fiber side-view mirrors and duckbill wing add to the clean look. A Civic Type-R rear bumper with lip was added, and after a five-month wait, a Backyard Special front bumper found its way on to the hatchback. With all the body pieces finally in place, the only decision left for Wai was the paint. Tired of the scores of championship white Civic hatchbacks on the market, Wai picked imperial pine as the color of choice. Nothing wrong with being different.
Setup to be fast, comfortable, and good looking, this Civic hatchback is the jack-of-all trades for Honda enthusiasts. Not garish enough to get vandalized, stable enough to be driven daily, comfortable enough to stand rush hour traffic without road rage, pretty enough to compete in shows, and yet fast enough to do plenty of stupid things. Now if only it could outrun the Shinkansen. Maybe next time.
