2000 Honda S2000 - West Coast Style East Coast Attitude
With killer looks and the power to back it up, the turbo S2K was ready for the show circuit, or so you might think. Show after show the S2K received absolutely minimal recognition. Everyone was into the bling factor; exotic paint jobs, as many TVs as possible, killer stereos. Nothing is wrong with that, it was just not the look that PF Modify was going for. With so much time, effort and money invested, it was very disheartening to not get any love from the judges. Not to be deterred easily, the decision was made to take the S2K back to the drawing board at PF Modify.
With more aftermarket pieces coming out, the guys at the shop did some research and saw that Tein Suspension had just come out with a new RS coil-over suspension for the S2000. After installation it was decided to just close the wheel gap rather than slam it to the floor. Would you want your ride an inch off the floor after spending a small fortune on a C-West body kit? Not unless you have money to burn. With the new, more aggressive stance it was time for a new wheel combination. Sticking with Volk, but going staggered this time, the TE-37s were swapped with Volk GT-U 18x7.5 out front and 18x8.5 in the rear. While they were down there, PF Modify replaced the big Baer Brakes with an even larger Brembo Gran Turismo big brake kit.
With the engine, brakes and suspension all in place it was time for some work on the exterior. The current trend of a painted hardtop was tossed in favor of a genuine MUGEN carbon-fiber top. This rare piece from Japan is one of the first things you notice on the S2K, and it looks beautiful. A carbon-fiber MUGEN wing and hood were also fitted in order to complete the MUGEN carbon fiber theme. To match the exterior, carbon fiber was used extensively throughout the interior.
With the car finally being up to PF Modify standards, it was time to get back into the show circuit. After not winning anything all summer, it wasn't until Import Xpressions ended the season in Boston did the S2K get the recognition it deserved. Fortunately, the experienced judges were able to spot the S2K and recognize it as one of the best on the East Coast. The judges were impressed with this Beast from the East and the S2K won Best Japanese Elite and Best Honda. With a big middle finger to the current East Coast trends, the guys at PF Modify built a car that they can be proud of, and in the end that is all that really matters. Of course, being spotted by 2NR was just icing on the cake.
