2001 Honda S2000 - Master Piece

Mastergrade's S2000 Takes Wide To Another Level, And Sports More Carbon-Fiber Than An F1 Racer

Yem's design work hasn't been limited to just the exterior, however, as he's also applied his expertise to the cockpit. The factory door panels have been removed completely and replaced by beautiful one-piece carbon-fiber panels. The center console was also layered with carbon-fiber and supports a flush-mounted A'PEXi V-AFC and a horn button embossed with the Momo logo. Said button was actually removed from the Momo steering wheel during some of Yem's idle time and placed in the console, because, well, no one else had done it yet. Various other carbon-fiber additions to the interior include door sills, A-pillars, a custom molded frame for the Pioneer LCD display, and a special port mounted beneath the passenger-side dash that holds a Pioneer DVD/navigation unit. For the finishing touch, the stock seats were removed and replaced with carbon-kevlar Momo racing buckets strapped with Takata harnesses to keep the car's occupants anchored snugly in place.

No doubt the Mastergrade S2000 is a wonder to behold, but the car doesn't just look good. It's been built to perform, too. Tein RS coilovers have been planted beneath the muscular new body panels to drop the car into an appropriate stance. Comptech strut tower braces front and rear and a Rick's lower X-brace assist the remarkably rigid S2000 chassis in becoming even more rigid-if such a thing is possible. The front brakes were upgraded with beefy Brembo Gran Turismo assemblies, which include 12.5-inch vented and cross-drilled rotors, braided stainless lines and massive four-piston calipers. The rear brakes were improved with stock-sized cross-drilled rotors from Metal Master Rotors.com. High-dollar Kinesis wheels, sized 19x8.5 inches in front and 19x12.5 in the rear, and Continental Sport Contact tires, sized a ridiculously fat 315/25ZR19 in the rear, constitute the car's new shoes and laces.

Under the new custom hood, a Vortech forced induction system has been installed to bring engine output and performance up to par with the rest of the vehicle. Mastergrade employed the famous XS Engineering to install and tune the system. XS overhauled the motor with a new, 2.2-liter Honda short block, installed the myriad supercharger system components, and implemented the fuel enrichment parameters using an HKS F-CON and the aforementioned A'PEXi V-AFC. Testing and tuning on the XS dyno yielded 382 hp and 229 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels-more than enough power to cook those massive Continental meats in short order. Since our photographs were taken, Yem has designed and implemented a brace of carbon-fiber shrouding pieces, six in all, within the engine bay. While they're not exactly practical-one piece actually makes it damn near impossible to unscrew the oil filler cap without taking it out entirely-the components are great for setting the engine bay off at industry events and the like. As with the rest of Mastergrade's carbon-fiber accessories and aerodynamics programs, these pieces are available for sale to stick in your own S2000 engine bay should your little heart desire.

With the Mastergrade S2000 all but completed, Perry Yem is hard at work on his next creation, which he hopes to have completed by the end of this year in time for the SEMA convention in Las Vegas. The current project is based on a certain legendary Japanese muscle car that recently got a comprehensive makeover at the hands of the manufacturer's designers. Yem is set to one-up those elite automotive designers yet again, and considering what he's done with the S2000 we can't wait to see the results. In addition to selling all the parts you see here directly to their consumers, Mastergrade will also take on any design project you may want to throw at them. Want a complete aerodynamics redesign of that old '89 Accord? It won't be cheap, but Yem and his staff are willing to take on just about any challenge. If you want a one-of-a-kind car that's driven by no one else, and you've got a gigantic wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket, it's definitely the way to go.
