Aono replaced the high mileage 4A-G engine with a AE92 late model 4AG-ZE supercharged powerplant, available only in Japan. The Japanese version has a larger crank, larger wrist pins, an oil squirters for the pistons and a higher compression (8.9:1). Aono left the internals in factory spec before shoehorning it into the engine bay. He replaced the factory supercharger pulley with a larger-diameter unit made by CUSCO to increase boost levels and broaden the vehicle's overall response. A 38- to 50mm TRD 4-2 to 1 header extricates the spent fumes through a Gardena Muffler special. Ignition chores are done by an AE92 supercharged DLI unit while an A'PEXi Super AFC handles engine management parameters.
Aono upgraded the factory suspension and brakes. The front suspension includes a set of Koni dampers equipped with springs rated to 500 lb. The rear is a TRD 8-way adjustable with a softer 350-lb TRD spring. The vehicle brakes sufficiently thanks to a set of Project Mu carbon-metallic pads and GoodRidge stainless-steel brake lines. TRD sway bars increase overall handling while a full set of TRD bushings replace the old and worn-out factory components. A Safety 21 cage increased rigidity.
Although Aono owns the supercharged AE86, his girlfriend drives it. Shuyama punches the accelerator to power the supercharged AE86 as the O.S. Giken super single clutch transfers power to the TRD limited-slip differential with a final drive ratio of 4.3:1. The 15x8.5-inch Watanabe RS8 (-6 offset with -25mm spacer) wrapped in 195/50R-15 Falken Ziex 512 rear tires lose traction as Shuyama glides through the Battle Version short stroke shifter. A set of matching Watanabe 15x7 (+6 offset) with 44mm spacers guides the vehicle.
Body sculpting on the AE86 includes a full Trueno front conversion, complete with front bumper, grill and headlights and an older 1984-'85 model lip spoiler. Matching Trueno rear bumpers reside out back while a TRD rear wing is molded onto the rear tailgate. To fatten the AE86's appearance, a set of Jubiride front and rear fender flairs engulf the oversized Watanabe rims. Aono again painted the car in Snow White and used the same graphic scheme, but it's pink to match Shuyama's personality. Inside are only the bare essentials: a Classic Nardi steering wheel, and black Bride buckets.
Aono thanks Yoshie, Moto-P, Naoki, Mickey, Kenji, Hiro, Koji Mori, Koji of Hiro's Auto, Mr. Watanabe brothers, Mr. Nagata, Jessie of Euphoric, Non Fujita of Enonvative Force, Alex Phieffer, Andy Yen, Daijiro Yoshihara, Toysport, Club 4AG members, the Drift Association staff and instructors, and of course his fellow AE86 community.
