It's been nearly 45 minutes as Bryan patiently awaits the return of his favorite cop. Peeking over towards the patrol vehicle, he notices Officer Brown picking his nose and scratching his butt. "And he's supposed to protect and serve?" Bryan mumbles to himself as he continues his envious excursion, moving onto the bodywork of his pride and joy. Bryan has always been a stickler when it came to building a nice, clean vehicle-nothing over the top or gaudy for this Mitsubishi. Working from the back end of the vehicle, and moving slowly to the front, Bryan spent countless hours and much of his hard-earned money to obtain a JDM EVO 9 rear bumper, JDM EVO MR 8 taillights, JDM HID headlights, and a Voltex carbon-fiber trunk. What sets this EVO apart from your typical run-of-the-mill Mitsubishi is the uber expensive and hard to obtain Voltex rear carbon diffuser and Voltex Type V carbon GT wing. Voltex of Japan has collaborated over the years with HRS Garage, builder of the Cyber EVO driven by Tarzan Yamada. The Cyber EVO has been known worldwide as one of the premiere EVO's in time attack racing, breaking numerous track records in recent years. Ganador side mirrors, JDM rain guards, and a Perrin antenna are just a few of many accessories that now reside on Bryan's work of art. Voltex once again plays a heavy role on this EVO as a Voltex front lip, Voltex side steps, and vortex generators create one sick looking ride. A Varis carbon hood adds the finishing touch on the exterior.
What seemed like an eternity of wasted time finally ended as Bryan's ears picked up the sound of leather and the clacking of boots. Officer Brown approached with the same sneer on his face, but this time had some pink doughnut frosting trickling down the ends of his mustache. Without hesitation, he asks Bryan to look under the EVO's hood. "I don't think you can handle this," says Bryan. "You better watch that tone of voice with me young man. Did you forget that I'm the LAW?" Officer Brown barked. "What I meant to say is that you're so in love with your American muscle that you'll be in shock when you see what my car has to offer. Tell you what Officer Brown. I'll make you a deal. After all that's been said and done, if you still truly believe your pushrod toys are top notch, then write me as many tickets as you want. But if it's a matter of me proving my point, I get to drive away scotch free." After a few minutes of contemplating the offer, Officer Brown agrees to the terms and Bryan pops open the hood.
"Holy shi...." mumbles the officer as he quickly catches himself in mid sentence. Quickly putting a look of disinterest on his face, Brown asks Bryan to ramble off the list modifications. With a smile, Bryan takes one deep breath and begins. "Using a factory bottom-end block, the factory head was removed and refreshed with a full HKS valvetrain assembly. A set of HKS 272 intake and exhaust camshafts mated to a pair of HKS cam gears sit under a HKS Kansai carbon cam gear cover. The factory head gasket was replaced with a HKS 1.2 mm unit while ARP head studs tie both ends together. A HKS timing belt, Power Enterprise accessory belt, and GReddy balance shaft belt now sit in place of the factory units. Using an Infiniti Q45 throttle body bolted up to a HKS RS intake, the HKS aluminum charge pipes feed the HKS 3037 turbo mated to a tubular HKS exhaust manifold. Inlet temperatures are kept ice cold thanks to a HKS R core intercooler while a HKS Kansai carbon cold air intake box feeds a healthy dose of air into the turbine. An HKS 50mm race wastegate regulates boost pressure while spent exhaust fumes are delivered out the backside using a HKS downpipe and Helix test pipe."
"What's with the green valve cover? Don't they usually come in red?" asks the cop. "Wow, looks like someone's been studying more than a 350 Chevy short block I see," Bryan replies. "Well, the green cover isn't some painted valve cover. The unit comes from a JDM EVO VII. The factory fuel system has been upgraded using a Walbro 255lph fuel pump, HKS billet fuel rail, and kept in check with a HKS fuel regulator. Cooling has been improved using a combination of parts starting off with an ARC radiator, ARC radiator valve, ARC Ti radiator panel, Ralliart radiator hose, Ralliart thermostat, and HKS Kansai surge tank. "Is this one of those blow off things?" asks Officer Brown as he points towards the engine bay. "Uhh... no Mr. Officer. That's actually the Forge steering pump reservoir and Forge radiator fluid reservoir." Turning the color of beet red, Officer Brown quickly replies, "Ooh, I knew that all along. I was just testing you." Staring hard at the engine bay for more than 10 minutes, Officer Brown has an uncomfortable look on his face. The look you get when you know you've been defeated. Without warning, his eyes widen as if a light bulb went off in his head. "You kids don't know anything about high-horsepower cars and the necessity of good oil coolers do you?" With a smile Bryan replies, "Well this EVO is laying down a moderate 420 wheel horsepower on pump gas and yes I know all about the importance of cooling. That's why this baby's got a full HKS oil cooler kit. Now if you don't mind, Officer Brown, can you please close my hood so I can be on my way?"
Speechless, the officer quietly closes the bonnet as Bryan saddles up and starts his car. A deafening roar brings the EVO to life as Bryan slowly creeps forward to address the cop. "Sorry about the delay officer but I hope you had a nice time chatting with me. Here's my business card. If you're ever in the market for some JDM parts I'm sure I can help you out." Standing in the middle of the street dumbfounded, Officer Brown, with his mouth agape, stares at Bryan as he quickly drives off into the sunset. "Damn... I've got to get me one of those," mumbles Brown as he drudgingly walks towards his patrol car.
