Ahh...the infamous Toyota Supra. You know, the one with the round taillights, the legendary lights that, for the past several years have found themselves orphaned on the back of Honda Civics, CRXs and Acura Integras. While most of us have seen Supra taillights on Hondas more than we've come to know them on the car they belong to, today will have to be an exception.
The 1995 Zipp Motorsports Toyota Supra represents one of the most admired cars from the Toyota line-up. With its enormous size and smooth flowing contours, the Supra is a legend in its own class and as you are about to see, this one takes things to yet another level. And for all of the reconstructive surgery specialists, please don't take offense to the previous comments. Just calm down and pick up that bucket of bondo-you'll be all right.
Leaving this Supra's huge paw prints is a set of Pirelli P-Zero tires, which measure in at 245/40ZR-19 in the front and 295/35ZR-19 in the rear. The rims are mounted onto a set of 19-inch Dazz Matizz rims, which feature a 7-spoke configuration reminiscent of the GT touring cars in Japan. Working with the rim and tire combo is a suspension system equipped for high-speed handling and exhilaration.
The stock shocks have been replaced with Tokico units, which are coupled with Eibach springs. An additional Trust front strut bar helps stiffen up the chassis a tad for the extra cornering advantage.
An imported body kit, which sports a ground-hugging stance, highlights the overall presentation of this 1995 Toyota Supra. The kit, which was exclusively imported from Japan by Zipp Motorsports, is a Signature/Zipp kit that can only be purchased through Zipp Motorpsorts. The kits smooth flowing lines and double edged front bumper vents provide a clean factory look that is subtle yet distinct.
Mounted on top of the rear hatch is a wing assembly that takes much of its styling cues from the renowned Porsche GT3. The wing adds the final touch to the vehicle and offers Supra owners another styling option other than the aluminum racing wings.
While the kit on a vehicle is only as good as the installation, it is noteworthy to mention that Dr. AG Auto Body in Garden Grove, Calif. performed the preparation and installation of the kit. Once complete, the car was doused in Mercedes Benz SLK white. What is left is a perfect synergy between Japanese body styling and American craftsmanship, in painting that is.
While the throaty exhaust notes prove to be music in itself, that music can soon become tiresome and monotonous with a long road trip to Vegas. But not to worry, the sound system, or should we say audio/visual system, in this Supra is flat out wild.
Creating a system of this caliber is a task better left for the experts, so the car was delivered to Autosound Specialists. It was there that the blueprints began and the minds went to work.
Controlling the system is an Alpine CAV-1005 unit that is linked to a VCR, TV tuner, DVD player as well as a Dolby Digital Decoder flush mounted on the drives side dash. The installation of this system features lots of neat tricks, which are sure to amuse onlookers.
Take for example the VCR that rises out of a custom made enclosure in the trunk. The button, which is located on the Alpine alarm remote, activates the riser along with a grouping of strategically placed neon. But the gadgets don't stop here. There is also a taillight-mounted camera that can be activated to view traffic or the faint, disappearing image of the vehicle that Shuichi just smoked in traffic.
