A B&M fuel pressure regulator helps ensure consistent pressure at the injectors and a Venom 400 is piggybacked to the ECU to alter the power curve for optimum mid-range. This unit is OBDII compatible and works by intercepting the throttle position sensor and MAP signal and modifying them. The unit monitors these signals 40 times per second, so it doesn't bog, and because it's a mid-range chip, it works with other top-end ECU mods. It also has an on/off switch for when you have a date with the Gestapo-er, smog referees. Somebody in the snake pit certainly did their homework-this stuff is damn nifty.
The engine itself is relatively stock, but the car's breathing capacity was opened up with a Ractive intake, DC Sports header and dual Ractive cans out back. Ractive spark plug wires, lots of loom and slick silicone hoses further dress up the engine bay.
Bends & Binders
A set of Ractive coilovers reside at the Sol's corners, providing its aggressive stance. Ractive sway bars help reduce body roll and a Ractive strut tower brace adds chassis stiffness from its perch under the hood. Powerstop cross-drilled rotors team with Goodridge stainless-steel lines to reduce brake fade and improve pedal feel. Plus, they look much better than the stock rotors behind those fine MOMO Sports.
Props & Plans
If you haven't already guessed, Littlefield's focus for the future is under the lid. By the time this issue hits the stands, the Sol will be equipped with a Venom intake, fuel rail and injectors. His wish list also includes a Gude Performance head conversion, manual trans conversion and ultimately boost by way of a turbo. Inside, a roll bar will be added as well as a couple more 12-inch Polk subs. We don't know exactly where he plans to put them, but if the pristine finish of his current enclosures are any indication, they'll find their way into the mix.
Littlefield talked up the few who helped him out; Ken Palen, Big June, John at Speedesign and Littlefield's club, Forbidden Dreamz. He also gave special thanks to Greg and Tom at Polk Audio. Although the car's mainly for show, he hopes to try his hand down the 1320 once the car is boosted. Whether or not that ever happens, one thing is for sure; come show season, the heat from this Sublime Sol is going to stifle the competition.
