Ricest
I just read your article "F*ck the Purists", on the Bosozoku FD RX-7 in the Sept '09 issue. I don't know about everyone else who read it, but I like the look of 19s on that car, with the flared fenders and aggressive offset. I get what Bruce had in mind when he built it. I don't consider myself a purist, but I do know a car built "right" from one that's not, and as long as what you're doing looks good, you're good to go. I have an airbagged '94 Lexus LS400, and I know it's not much, but I'm getting silly with it all the same, rolling the fenders for some Work 18x12s as I write this. All you purists out there can laugh at my car and hate on it all you want-I know it's not functional. I know it's impractical. It's ricey as hell, and that's exactly the way I like it! Keep up the good reppin' 2NR!
JC Whitaker, West Palm Beach, FL When we printed the feature of Bruce Kress' FD a few months back, we knew the car and Bruce's "I don't care if you don't like it" approach would spawn some controversy. But damn. Six months later and we still receive love/hate mail on a regular basis regarding that feature. It's funny-in contrast to JC's reply, most don't have nice things to say about Bruce and his FD; people who "just don't get it," as he'd say. We actually look forward to reading theirs the most. Maybe we're more like Bruce and his FD than we thought.
We went to Super lap battle finals, and all we got you is this shirt. well . . . that, and complete coverage on page 40. A tacky, multi-colored, contingency-logo-clad sweatshop Tee you could pick up at any hotrod race this is not; small-batch, high-demand, tailored-fit apparel by alphanumeric it is, and this one is sitting in a box, awaiting JC to hit us up with his shipping addy. Congrats, letter writer!
Suprarunner
I have been reading and enjoying your mag for years now, and have been debating undertaking a sort of unorthodox project-my '97 Toyota 4Runner. I don't want to lift it, throw mudders on and take it through the dirt. And I don't want to swap in the Tundra V-8 like everyone else. I want to do the opposite: slam it and build it to go fast as t*ts. But I have two problems: It's only a two-wheel drive four-cylinder, and I can't find any performance parts for it. Tacoma parts are everywhere, but nothing for the 4Runner. Can you guys help?
Chris Martin, Denver, CO Upgrade your garage with some heavy duty cutting/welding equipment, because after you Youtube "2jzgte 4runner", you'll know exactly what must be done.
Block head
Hey guys, I'm a longtime reader and import builder and shorttime EVO owner currently deployed to Afghanistan. I just received the November issue in the mail, and all I can say is, "Daaaaaaaaaaaaammm"! That CBRD EVO is absolutely sick! I read all the issues that make it over to me, regardless of what types of cars are featured, and I understand that personal preference goes a long way in building a car; what some of us think is hot, the next guy might not. But there's just no arguing against the CBRD EVO. Everything is perfect on that damn car, and the attention to detail is something anyone can appreciate. I follow the EVO forums and shops pretty closely when I'm not stuck in the middle of the desert, and I don't think I've heard of CBRD or that EVO until I read the feature-are they tracking it yet? Any word on how it's doing? Thanks again, and keep finding gems like that!
