The engine bay was perhaps the only part of the car James didn't tackle all by himself. "I did the swap," he explains, about the JDM B16A engine and Y80 trans in the EK's bay, fitted with a B18C Integra Type R intake manifold, cams, valve springs, retainers, and a grip of AEM components throughout-a basic, yet inarguably effective method of handling power delivery, and one that lends easily to future upgrades. "Elton from Raceline Development made it shine," he's quick to point out. Once everything was dialed in and running right, Elton pulled the engine, trans, and every removable engine bay component, sprayed the bay Chrysler Grey, relocated the battery, hid the brake lines and prop valve, and tucked the factory harness. "The crazy thing," explains James, "is that Elton tucked the harness without cutting a single wire, except the ones running to one of the headlights." But James supplied the finishing touches: authentic Mugen license plate hardware fastening the fenders, headlights, covering the strut tower bolt holes and radiator support-a nice touch, at $38 per pair.
The very last components to go in were a Pioneer head unit, 6x9-inch rear speakers, and 6.5-inch door speakers, which lasted all of one week, until someone broke into James' car the day before our photoshoot and stole them-and only them, strangely enough. "Ehh," says James, "I'm not losing sleep over it. The sound of revving out my B16 is entertainment enough!"
