With five consecutive seasons as a Seattle Seahawks cheerleader (a "Sea Gal," seriously, look it up), Amber Lancaster is one of the few women out there that can do a "U-G-L-Y, you ain't got no alibi-you ugly! Eh, eh You Ugly!" routine and can actually back it up. Her short 5 years of modeling got her jobs that would make all you manly-man shop monkeys drool (Pirelli Tires, HIN, Hawaiian Tropic, Makita, Miller Lite, and Budweiser). She's even pulled a part in an upcoming movie. She told me that "this is just the beginning," and from her positive and upbeat personality, she makes no room for disbelievers. I guess she's made a fan out of me. Go, fight, win, Amber! Go, fight, win!
2nr: How funky was your chicken? How loose was your goose?
AL: Yes, I was a cheerleader for the Seattle Seahawks. Those were some of the best years of my life. We had the best seats in the house and cheered for a lot of fans. But I have to tell you that there's so much more than just cheering at the games-the reality is that the games take up the least amount of time. We did charity events, parades, radio and T.V. appearances, and we also worked with the players for community outreach programs.
2nr: School me...is there any difference between say an NFL and an NBA cheerleader?
AL: Well, with football there's like 70,000 fans at each home game...and there are 10 games. Basketball has like 40 games and about 10-15,000 fans a game...so for football, you have a much larger audience. Dance-wise, the moves are bigger and what not. NFL's girls are known to have glamorous, beautiful girls. NBA has moved toward hip hop and has focused more on the dancing than on how pretty the girls are.
2nr: And not to mention that the NFL has the best wardrobe malfunctions available to commercial television.
AL: I've had one. We had a pre-game routine where we had to start at one end of the field and end up all the way on the other end. We had these uniforms that had to be laced from the bellybutton all the way up. Mine was a little loose and since we had to dance the whole time the movement was making the laces unravel. I couldn't do anything about it and to add to the situation, there was a cameraman on me that was sending images to the Jumbotron.
2nr: 3 cheers for live camera feeds and gigantic screens!
AL: Not really a malfunction, but on one of my shoots with a magazine, I was playing the role of "Ms. Fixit" where I go around this house and they photograph me fixing stuff. So I'm at a sink and I'm bent over messing with the pipe, and the shots end up showing me off with a plumber's crack.
2nr: The term "plumber's crack" gets my mind trading off images of an overweight and disgustingly sweaty man-crack and the image of the butt-crack of a beautifully shaped 25-inch waist and it's 35-inch hips. It's like a blessing and a curse.
2nr: I'm sure you go on shoots often, how did you like Tuner's cover shoot?
AL: The Import Tuner cover shoot was so fun! The stylist was good and the photographer was cool. Yeah, I go on shoots fairly often. Today I'm on my way to do a print shoot for a clothing retailer called Wet Seal.
2nr: Modeling has done well for you?
AL: I've been modeling professionally for about 5 years now and I've managed to get some good titles under my belt. I love doing it. Aside from acting, it's the only thing that's driven me. The only thing I hate is the "instability" factor.
2nr: Here's a tip: date a high-paid mogul-type so that it won't matter if you get that callback or not-cause mama's comin' home with that Prada one way or another!
AL: Really, I'm a typical girl's girl. I like to go shopping, go and get some sun (giggles), go on vacation, go hang out with my friends, go to dinner, go dancing...
2nr: Yup, that's a girl alright. Seems you might need a little cash to do all that stuff...especially since you can pretty much do all those things in a weekend-especially shopping.
AL: I'm a total bargain shopper. I love finding a good deal! I shop at thrift stores...and places like Forever 21! I do have a thing for designer jeans and bags. I mix it up.
