Police Chase - Don't Get Caught!

Out Run The Police. Hell No! We Would Never Dare

Dan Hobdish, who has worked with police agencies in the past, says that a good eye and listening skills can be very helpful. He says that many times those who are being chased by police tend to lose touch with their senses and get tunnel vision. Hobdish goes on to add that the most successful race car drivers are those that can stay relaxed when they are driving 140mph. So that same frame of mind will help you when in times of a pursuit.

The odds are very high that the cops at some point are going to try to "ram and pin" your car, a technique that many police agencies use. This technique means two police cars will sandwich your car, preventing you from going any further. Here it would be valuable to know how to drive in reverse at high speeds or use your own ramming skills reminiscent of NASCAR racing.

There are several media items that could aid you in your evasive endeavor. GPS will lay out what roads you are on and the radio is helpful. This way you can follow your own chase and stay ahead of the game.

One thing that binds down the police is pursuit policy, which is essentially a huge book that dictates what they can and cannot do. This favors you because you really don't have to follow any rules since you are already breaking them. But keep in mind that you do not want to hurt anybody, and that includes yourself. The LAPD will actually call off a chase if they feel anyone is at harm, therefore, you might want to play by the same rules. Be experimental, but be smart. Don't use the freeway during rush hour to ditch the cops.

Severe weather conditions might play in your favor too. Adverse weather conditions like snow, fog or rain will make the police think twice about high speeds and will more than likely cancel any chance of helicopters following you. But it's here where you must have some training in a severe weather driving course. Most areas offer these classes and they will last about a day and are fairly inexpensive. Who knows? A defensive driving course might keep you out of jail.

Inevitably the chase, like all good things, will come to an end. You only have so much gasoline in the tank and tread on the tire, so if the car pursuit should come to an end, there is always a chance to get away on foot...but that's a different article.
