At this year's SEMA convention, last year's D1GP promoters Slipstream Global Marketing had a press conference announcing their new Formula Drift series which will consist of a four race series with two on the East Coast and two on the West. A fifth one is still up for debate in Houston. Formula Drift is currently part of the SCCA program under the supervision of Slipstream. During the meetings, one face that rung a bell was legendary driver Bob Bondurant who was there with his crew of race instructors. I found it pretty strange that they were there but on the next day they were all present for the Drift exhibition. It was then that I found out that Bondurant is debating about hosting drift classes through their normal racing school sometime this year. This brings me back to what I was originally talking about when it comes to starting a drift school. Once again, it's more than teaching car control, it's about knowing when to throw the drift into a turn; it's about know when to do it to look good in front of the judges to score more points. In any case I'm sure that Bondurant's school will do an awesome job teaching the basics. The proof is that they are doing their homework by showing up at the drift events. Also rumored to have interest in teaching the art of drifting are Skip Barber Racing, Russell Racing and Panoz. That's just one guy's opinion but for more information about upcoming or current drift schools link to the sitse below.
