Summer before college. Kicking it with the homies doing absolutely nothing at all. Waking up to catch the Showcase Showdown of The Price is Right. No worries in life except making it to McDonald's in time for breakfast.

It's Summer Time
No matter how much time has disenfranchised the words "summer" from "vacation", there is still a certain nostalgic joy that comes with the warm season. School, for the enrolled, is out, temperatures rise, the days grow longer, and the apparel in which girls dress, gets shorter. Besides moisty, drippy perspiration, there isn't a reason for anyone not to like summer.
And so while summer break is a long, bygone notion for some-cough, me, cough-it doesn't mean we can't celebrate, 2NR style. Besides cars shot on the beach, we have a list of cooling products that not only beat the heat, but make power. What didn't start off making so much power is Luke's '93 Miata, our Power Page car. It made what is quite possibly the least amount of power on the dyno in 2NR history, ever. But, and it's a modicum-sized but, after some tweaks, Luke managed to coax an extra 28.6 hp in just a few steps. Record breaking? No. Semi in flavor of the summer issue? Maybe. It is a convertible-correction a very, very, small, red convertible-and nothing says ambiguously straight summer more than a red-blooded American rocking a loudly modified red Miata.

What was your best summer vacation?
Key West, Florida. The Cessna was scary, but that island is heavenly. And there is this cat show! Did you know that you can train a cat to do tricks?

Continuing the theme of regurgitating the Table of Contents, we have a brand new section to welcome: Anatomy. Dedicated to purpose-built machines, Anatomy will showcase cars that are unique in their abilities and Tage's EG Civic is a prime example. Almost stock in appearance, we break down a Civic that took out EVOs, STIs, S15s, S2000s, Supras, and Porsches at our Super Lap Battle Finals in Buttonwillow, Calif.
For Formula D coverage, there's some more freshness: Formula D Diaries. We managed to round up seven of the top drifters and had them divulge, in their words, what goes on during race day. From breaking parts, not qualifying, Top 16, to winning, every trial and tire smoking tribulation is recounted in intimate detail.
The icing on the summer cake is HIN L.A. To show that models are capable of more than sexy poses and selling autographed photos, Pearl Nalani and I report from the HIN floor to bring you the hottest 20 cars that L.A. has to offer. So for the six of you that read this column, go on and enjoy the rest of the summer issue and the season. Just make sure to use deodorant. Both the paper we're printed on and the populace at large will greatly appreciate it.
