Dyno 4: Splitfire Super Direct Ignition System
Pros
Splitfire has come up with a platform-specific, plug-and-play coil-on-plug ignition system. Currently available only for the SR20DET and Mazda Miata, the ignition system maintained voltage across the rpm range and was able generate 1.3 hp and 1.7 lb-ft of torque at the peak. We realized as much as 6 hp and 2 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. The ignition really smoothed out the curve, taking out a number of undulations that occurred from 3500 rpm through red line.
Cons
Since there are few platforms available, only those lucky owners will really be able to take advantage of the system. Also, it's a little pricy.
Notes
Installation was a snap. The dyno graphs show where the stock ignition fell short on voltage. The instructions mention that you should switch to cooler plugs when upgrading power adders. Thankfully, all of the directions are in English.
