Pros
When all avenues of bolt-ons have been exercised, it is time to open up the engine. The Buddy Club 264-degree camshafts are a perfect addition to the 4G63 engine. By pushing the valves deeper and longer into the combustion chamber the turbocharger can fill the cylinder with more charger air allowing for more power to be generated. The Buddy Club bumpsticks can work with the factory valvetrain but it is a good idea to upgrade to stiffer springs. These camshafts are still making good power at redline as is and with a set of stiffer springs we should be able to rev the engine to 8000 rpm
Cons
The bumpsticks will cause the engine to lope a little bit and to extract maximum power you will need a set of adjustable cam gears. We used a set of AEM Tru-Time cam gears to add degree in the camshafts.
Conclusion
Talk about a performance increase. In this installment of Power Pages we generated over 43 hp to the wheels with three bolt-ons. That's some serious shot of adrenaline to the 4G63 engine. With over 310 hp on tap, the Evolution accelerates hard all the way to redline. With the extra horsepower, there is little competition that is able to keep up with the Evolution. We plan on further increasing performance output of the 4G63 engine with a larger set of camshafts and also some much-needed extra boost. So if you see this land shark prowling the streets you better stay out of it's way unless you want to be eaten alive.
