Notes
Hard pipes are nothing more than aesthetics you say? Think again. With a full set of hard pipes installed onto the EVO, we ran the car on the dyno with a pleasant surprise in horsepower and whopping torque gains. From 4000rpm, the dyno graphs revealed respectable gains as the advantage of using a hard pipe kit was obvious. A consistent gain of 5 to 15hp was recorded where the highest gains were achieved from 5800 to 6500rpm. Again, these numbers were obtained with a combination of the new pipes and Power FC tuning performed by XS Engineering.

Pros
For those individuals looking for more than your simple bolt-on parts, XS Engineering has the perfect camshaft combination for your 4G63 powerplant. Designed as a drop-in camshaft without the need for aftermarket valve springs or retainers, the XS RaceMax camshaft enables peak boost to be achieved 350rpm earlier, thus reducing unwanted turbo lag and an improvement in throttle response. Designed as a camshaft for dual-purpose street or track usage, the RaceMax offers smooth idle characteristics and is optimized for horsepower potential using your stock cam sprockets. Planning on revving your engine to higher rpms for sustained periods of time? XS Engineering recommends using aftermarket valve springs and retainers from specialty manufacturers such as Crower.
Cons
If you're not mechanically inclined, we suggest you ask a performance shop to install these camshafts. Although the RaceMax camshafts work well without any aftermarket management or tuning, XS Engineering highly recommends proper tuning using a competent engine and ECU tuner to extract your camshafts' maximum horsepower potential.

Notes
Mild in idle compared with many aftermarket camshafts on the market today, the XS Engineering PowerMax camshafts are an excellent way of obtaining usable horsepower throughout the power band. From 3500 to 5000rpm, a gain of 10hp was delivered. A gain was once again plotted on the dyno at 5800rpm till redline with gains as high as 12hp and 20 lb-ft of torque.

Conclusion
Upgrading components that are often overlooked netted us a gain of 43.4hp and 36.2 lb-ft of torque over our initial baseline numbers. With superior engine response from 3500 to redline, we highly recommend any EVO enthusiast to take into consideration the benefits of these three components and some proper ECU tuning in the near future.
