According to literature available on Pulstar's site, Pulse Plugs amplify spark energy internally, leading to a much more powerful spark from factory ignition components than can be found with conventional spark plugs that simply transfer a set amount of power. Amplifying spark intensity can increase combustion efficiency in instances where air and fuel aren't burned completely, resulting in increased power and torque, and increased fuel efficiency.

Like a lot of newer cars, our IS 250 seemed to burn its air/fuel charge very efficiently. Moderately small power and torque gains were realized, which means the plugs are still closing the margin for improvement. In older cars that aren't as efficient fuel burners as our IS, look for increased performance, especially-we theorize -if additional air and fuel are introduced into combustion via forced induction or nitrous.

Conclusion
Though it did respond positively to modification at all stages, upgrading our IS 250 didn't exactly increase power output significantly. What did increase, however was its allure on the street-without costing reliability, warranty infringement, or the new-generation IS's overall luxurious, mature appeal. And if you're behind the wheel of one, that may be more of a priority than proving yourself to the kid in the Integra in the next lane.
