I wasn't going to give this album a second thought, much less a second spin. It sat in the same spot on my desk for a week and a half getting comments like "Is that A Tribe Called Quest...wait, that's...a disgusting cover. Who the hell is that?" and "OooKaaayyy...who would put a piece of poo on a turntable and take a picture?" I really had plans to take this one out back and use it to scare away rodents, but I put it back in the player one last time, popped on the headphones and found the record is what the picture depicts-hot shit. Back in the day, in the groundbreaker era of Eazy-E, EPMD and Public Enemy, L.A. radio's 1580 KDAY introduced hip hop's urban version of Al Yankovic-Bobby Jimmy and the Critters. Here is the next generation. Its crazy lyrics (McMonkey Fried Chicken?), over-processed vocals, unreal characters (Dook Crapmore/Dj Brownfinger) and unorthodox rhythms and samples (someone taking a leak in a toilet) puts these psychos in the running for the kings of the sloppy-style. I've gone thorough all 19 tracks a few times and can't figure out how they kept from laughing through each cut. Here it is-2 Hype 2 Wype. Take it for what it is. Once you get into-and accept-the characters, the album becomes "Saturday Night Live" in urban audio form. Wordsound.com
