R-Type fans and side-scrolling shooters behold: your friends at Eidos bring forth R-Type Final. Not since Ikaruga was unleashed onto unsuspecting GameCube owners was I this impressed with a side-scroller released on a next-gen platform. R-Type Final presents a significant challenge as well as a lot of goodies for long-time fans.

Not since the hallowed days of the SNES and the last release of Grand Theft Auto have I found something that burns up as much time as R-Type Final. The graphics are crisp and gorgeous; the game runs as smoothly and frantically as you would hope any side-scroller released on next-gen hardware would be.

For its low entry fee, I would definitely recommend this little goodie for anyone's collection, especially if you miss the frantic side-scrolling shooters of yore. Since the genre has essentially been defined by R-Type, we assume that this is the last R-Type title to be released by the founding developer. Too bad it's not portable.
