Halo 2 - House Arrest

Kill Time Killing Everything

It puts you in control of one of two human or orc factions, each replete with its own set of special abilities, heroes, strengths and weaknesses. As far as RTS go, BfME does a great job in that resource management doesn't consume the majority of your time. That alone frees you up to concentrate your forces where you need them. Of course, veterans of the genre know full well that concentrating all of your forces on one area leaves you quite vulnerable.

Nonetheless, the game's engine is splendid and robust, capable of handling a fairly high number of units onscreen at once. Additionally, the models are finely detailed and have uncanny likenesses to the movie properties as well. Controls are easy to get used to and logically laid out. Overall, if you have a PC capable of handling this game, we highly recommend you check it out. It's an engrossing experience you won't soon forget.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake EaterPlatform: PS2Publisher: KonamiYup. Hideo Kojima's done it again. He's made another friggin' amazing Metal Gear game. While we have enjoyed the series since its inception on the NES, Kojima has truly taken the series a step further in MGS 3: Snake Eater. First off, the visuals are jaw-dropping. The opening sequence alone had us enthralled.

Getting in a little bit deeper, you can expect the same twists, otherworldly adversaries and ambiguous allies to weave you into one of the most detailed and twisted webs a video game has ever undertaken. Of course, Kojima wasn't just satisfied with story alone. He also threw in a massive variety of new tricks, play elements and Easter eggs.

The sheer depth is outstanding. And the jungle environment of Vietnam is another cool element. Although one thing has gotten us a bit curious: Solid Snake, ultimate badass and super-spy, is dropped into 1960s Vietnam. In prior games, the action was set in the near or not-so-distant future. If he's in his 20s for Vietnam, that makes him like frickin' 70 years old when he's kicking ass and taking names in the previous Metal Gear games. Now that's someone you want as your grandpa.

Artistic license set aside, Kojima's masterpiece is just that. If you don't already own this, then you have to ask yourself one question: Why even bother owning a PS2? You might as well trade it in for a toaster.
