Water offers twice the heat transfer properties compared to a mixture of 50/50 antifreeze/water in radiators, but can lead to internal engine corrosion when used as a 100-percent solution. Coolant additives like Red Line Water Wetter can be added to water or antifreeze/water to ward off corrosion, and improve the heat transfer of ethylene and propylene glycol systems, decreasing surface tension of water, and preventing heat, foaming and cavitations that can lead to gasket failure and cylinder head warping.
