You've had hard days at work. You're tired, cranky and in no mood to play games with the chump next to you in the supercharged Mustang. Your unappreciative boss was riding your ass for the later part of the day, yet the V8 cruising ass clown who's revving his engine next to you seems to show no sympathy towards what you've been through-all he wants to do is instigate a race. From one stop light to another, the Mustang is constantly hounding your ride, looking for a race when finally, your emotions get the best of you and decide enough is enough. You reach over to the dash and flip a switch, quickly arming the nitrous system and pushing a sequence of buttons to purge the nitrous into the lines. Just as you thought things seemed to go according to plan, one hand remains on the steering wheel as the other blindly searches the cracks and crevices between the center console and driver side seat for the nitrous push-button trigger switch. Suddenly, the Mustang lurches forward, followed by a deafening roar. You manage to juggle the trigger switch between your index and forefinger as you attempt to grasp the shift knob as you drop the hammer and hit the activation button. But to your disgust, nothing happens-not a damn thing. Frustrated, you begin hammering away at the button expecting the pungent smell of sulfur and anticipated punch that throws you into the back of your seat but you had no idea that the wires connected to the throttle body-mounted micro switch that triggers the nitrous had come loose two miles back. K&N '05-06 Scion tC Intake SystemI always believed that, for most cars, utilizing the factory air filter box and just designing a different intake route would be just as sufficient as a long-tube, cold-air intake. It turns out that K&N sees things the way I do, at least for the '05-06 Scion tC. They released a CARB-exempt intake system that uses the upper portion of the stock airbox and mates it to a special high-flow filter and heat shield that funnels cooler outside air. Turbosmart FPR Series Fuel Pressure Regulators I don't think you guys need me to tell the importance of upgrading your fuel system when adding a new turbo or upping the boost. Okada Projects of Japan recently introduced an innovative, highly effective and easy-to-install ignition Plasma Direct system, replacing the factory coils while promising to increase both horsepower and torque in less time than it takes to change out your spark plugs. A few body treatments were next on the list, K Style wide front fenders, followed by a carbon-fiber hood and new paint-Integra Type R yellow, no less-by Sunny Styling. After these cosmetic treatments, Chang turned his focus back to the suspension. He effected a five-lug hub swap with Z brakes, added the camber plates, a Nismo Power Bar 2, front tension rods and all new Nismo front bushings. The difference in handling, he says, was like night and day, as was the chassis' overall solidity. On the track, the bigger brakes also became a factor, and got Chang thinking about a Skyline Brembo kit as the next upgrade-though he hasn't acted on that impulse just yet. The new five-lug pattern made it necessary to upgrade the wheels again; this time he chose gunmetal Skyline R32 wheels because they were big enough to clear the Z brakes.

Forget about your promiscuous behavior. Nothing inflates the male ego faster than the random chatter of comparing who's got the larger horsepower number. The battle of who's packing the most ponies tends to overshadow the importance that import enthusiasts don't know squat when it comes to high performance engine tuning. It's one thing to bolt on thousands of dollars worth of parts to your turbocharged/ high compression naturally aspirated vehicle, but another to be able to properly tune the engine to last for more than a week.

Imagine yourself playing the role of a pilot flying a commercial jetliner. As you prepare yourself for a routine landing at LAX, you begin to recite those famous words: "Flight 454's landing gear is down and ready for taxi." You begin flipping numerous switches while carefully monitoring and adjusting the hundreds of gauges sitting within arm's reach. Without warning, you feel a sharp slap to the back of your head as your co-pilot gives you the meanest stink-eye. Why would she do that you ask yourself? Then it finally dawns on you, that woman sitting to your right is in reality your girlfriend. And the jet plane you're supposedly piloting? Well, at one time or another, that four-wheeled machine you currently drive resembled a Honda Civic. That was until you decided to plaster the cabin with dozens of tell-tale gauges varying from water temp meters to an oil pressure display, virtually transforming the Honda's cabin into a simulated jet cockpit.

In the early '70s, American muscle cars ruled the streets as teenagers rocked to the beats of Led Zepplin and The Doors. While the 1970s might reach too far back for today's youth, it was their parents who were still in their adolescent prime, hanging out at the local burger joint as they watched Camaros and Mustangs rumbling up and down the streets to the tune of "Earth Angel." More than a decade separates today's generation from our mom and dad's wild child era, but the love and appreciation for tire smoking, earth-rattling horsepower has been transformed from yesteryear to today.

It doesn't matter whether you're into racing, shows or just plain cruising; you love parts. The newest stuff and the latest trends are all that excite you and garner your interest. When a new carbon-fiber interior piece, cold-air intake design or tuned exhaust hits the market, you're already sitting pretty at the top of the waiting list. But, innovations that are instantly recognizable today weren't always so. Carbon Kevlar seats, forged magnesium wheels, titanium exhaust systems and remote reservoir shock absorbers were not born on the streets, they came from the racing world. Hell, even drop-in air filters had to start from somewhere.

As I sit behind my computer, staring at a blank computer screen, I ponder the evolutionary history of automotive electronics, thinking back to the earlier days of import cars and the limited technology that was offered. In the early '90s, turbocharged Honda's began rearing their ugly heads, terrorizing the public highways and local drag strips with their newfound horsepower. Proud owners of these force-fed machines found themselves experimenting with aftermarket fuel computers equipped with what's now considered to be an outdated DOS program. Not only were these standalone fuel computers a costly upgrade, but they proved to be difficult to tune and overly complex for the average enthusiast-until A'PEXi came to the rescue.
