Mitsubishi's latest-generation EVO debuts as the much-anticipated addition to the dominant lineage of everyone's favorite purpose-built rally/street car hybrid. And unlike many new-generation offerings that fail to support high performance bars set by their predecessors (without naming names), the EVO gets better with age. Along with significant suspension and driveline improvements, the EVO X brings an entirely new powerplant; the 2.0L, inline-four 4B11, which as we'll show, is able to make huge power from small monetary investments.

Some may argue that with a naturally aspirated 1.5L engine and sub-100whp numbers in stock form, a first generation Scion xB has no business gracing Import Tuner's Power Pages. Admittedly, the Box does blur the definition of a 2NR car just a little, but with its strong fuel economy and impressive torque output (considering its displacement), the toaster continues to be a choice daily driver among tuners everywhere. And with the amount of bolt-on mods available that claim to increase its power output and fuel economy even more, we thought we'd prove what it's capable of. Besides, don't pretend its numbers don't mirror those of your first Civic back in the day...

In 2004 the Honda S2000 power plant replaced the high revving 2.0L F20C engine with the 2.2L mill known as the F22C. Rated at 240 hp from the factory, the larger displacement F22C sports a broader powerband from a 2,157cc displacement while increasing its output to 162 lb-ft of torque over its previous models. Using a hybrid monocoque body and a high X-bone frame for body rigidity with 50/50 weight distribution, the S2K showcases a roadster that possesses exceptional handling, thanks to its re-tuned suspension and minor interior and exterior changes.

ConclusionStrapped to Dynamic Autosports Mustang Dyno, the MX-5 responded well to the newly installed parts netting a total peak gain of 18 hp and 11 lb-ft of torque. Not bad for a naturally aspirated car by any means. The car not only felt more responsive as we quickly shifted through the factory six-speed transmission, but was more enjoyable to drive on the streets and highways as the new Racing Beat intake and Tomei exhaust and header combo presented this MX-5 with a more sporty feel and sound. With such a small amount of affordable sport compact vehicles using the once-popular FR layout being produced today, it's a good to know companies such as Tomei and Racing Beat are among the few who continue to develop aftermarket products for the sporty MX-5, as they continue to keep the front engine/rear-wheel drive tradition alive and kicking in an era of economy filled vehicles.

The Civic Si has lived up to the hype and has proven to be a hot commodity in the aftermarket world. It seems like a day doesn't pass without seeing a blue Civic Si on the streets and wouldn't you know it, our new Si Civic is the popular electron blue.

Pros
B16 powerplants have been a long time favorite among the Honda and Acura community. While every imaginable add-on and buildup has been documented since its debut, we at 2NR thought it was time to reintroduce this popular 1.6-liter motor with some of the newest products on the market today. Spinning the rollers for this particular test is a bone stock 2000 Civic Si with a recorded 75,000 miles on the odometer. The modifications on the car were Neuspeed spark plug wires, Motegi Trak Lite wheels, and Kumho MX rubber.

Even in stock trim, the Evo VIII is a terror on the track, whether it is at the drag strip or the road course. Besides the STi, which cost nearly $5,000 more, the Evo VIII is the only car of its kind. With a base price of under $30,000 for the RS model, the Evo VIII is a whole lot of car for the money.

Conclusion
It's amazing when you consider the potential of the K-series motors now being offered in every Honda and Acura sold on the market today. Who could have imagined that slapping on an intake, header, and reflashed ECU would offer crisp throttle response and improved power from the midrange to redline. A drive around the block revealed a day and night difference when hammering down the accelerator. Our ultimate test phase was established in a third gear run which is known by any TSX owner to come off as sluggish when coasting on the road and abruptly applying the gas.
