Does your vehicle's interior rattle or emit excessive amounts of road noise that seems to increase with every climb of your engine rpm? Automobile manufacturers, for years, have added some sort of sound damping material to the interior cabin in a meager attempt to quiet interior noise, but the small amount used is nowhere near the necessary amount needed to sufficiently provide a comfortable ride. Vehicle experts have been known to say that one difference between a luxury automobile and an economy automobile is often determined by the interior sound quality. Luxury cars are obviously quieter in comparison due to additional sound insulation used, but who's not to say you can't obtain the same sound quality inside your economy car with a little help from Boom Mat.
Sound damping, or absorption mats, offer a simple and effective solution in eliminating unwanted vibration, heat transfer, road noise, and speaker vibration and has helped to solve many of the problems that both audiophiles and automotive enthusiasts alike have encountered for generations. Boom Mat is constructed of a viscoelastic polymer layer protected by a durable aluminum wear surface. Its strong adhesive backing is unaffected by extreme hot and cold temperatures and can be applied to horizontal, vertical, and inverted areas on metal, plastic, fiberglass, and most other automotive surfaces. The material is corrosion resistant and offers a flammability rating that competitor brands fail to deliver. We decided to apply the available Boom Mat eight-piece kit to our Honda Civic to reduce road noise while improving audio acoustics. Applying the material to the doors' inner skin is a very important element in car noise insulation, while we also hit the rear decklid/parcel shelf with the same material to improve audio sound quality.
By applying Boom Mat to any clean, dry surface you will reduce unwanted vibration and heat transfer from the engine/transmission compartment. Use a roller to activate the pressure sensitive adhesive.

We finished off our interior upgrade with a full set of Boom Mat speaker baffles. The baffles use a polyethylene material that's similar to dense foam to maximize speaker performance by isolating the correct frequency responses, while damping reverberation in the sheetmetal and panel-to-frame resonance. The baffle is available in a variety of sizes, which allows for speaker clearance in tight spaces.
We liked the fact that these baffles form a watertight protective shell to prevent moisture intrusion, which we found to be a serious and speaker-damaging problem in our Civic following a car wash. Upon installation of both the Boom Mat and baffles, we noticed a significant difference in audio sound quality along with a quieter ride. We also noticed the doors opened and closed with a more solid "thud", which we attribute to the Boom Mat.
