The basic idea is to drive your car as fast as possible around the circle without spinning out. The speed is measured (use a decent stopwatch) and lateral acceleration and grip (G-force) are calculated based on the speed and size of the circle using a simple formula.
Before you start blasting around your local parking lots, check with the owners to make sure that it's OK, or even better contact your local autocross or road-racing club and ask them for the locations of any suitable test areas. Be smart and be safe.
