Cooling Parts That Make Power
What It Delivered: Turbo cars with aftermarket EMSs like Carter's can be a bit finicky. All runs conducted at each stage varied a bit from one another, but upon averaging the results, we saw a small, clear-cut 2.5 whp and a 3.1lb-ft of torque gain by switching to the electric fans.
Notes: More important than power gains, the dual Mishimoto fans collectively cover more surface area and spin faster at low rpm than the SR's single, belt-driven stock fan-meaning it'll likely keep coolant temps down on those hot, stuck-in-traffic, summer days we all love so much. Oh yeah, and they also make the engine bay look way better than the stocker did.
S-Max Cool Can
Cools fuel before delivery to an engine
How It Works: Once inside the engine bay, fuel lines and components soak heat emitted by the engine and exhaust components, raising fuel temperatures and decreasing fuel density. Cooling fuel before it enters the final stages of the fuel system increases power by making fuel denser and lowers cylinder temperatures prior to combustion. The Cool Can is designed to fit in a car's fuel feed line-preferably just before the engine-and once filled with a cold substance of choice, cools and condenses fuel.
How It Was Tested: The cooling chamber of the Cool Can is designed to house a frozen 12-ounce beverage can and a little water, so that's how we tested it. Heading back to MD Automotive with the product installed inline between our DC2's fuel filter and rail, dyno runs were conducted first with the Cool Can empty, then later with it filled with the predetermined ice/water mix.
What It Delivered: The chilled supply of fuel to our DC2 did make extra power-an average of 2.2 whp and 1.5 lb-ft of torque.
Notes: Our naturally aspirated B18B doesn't use a lot of fuel; engines that use more fuel and make more power-per-liter will register proportionately larger gains, and could possibly gain even more power if the increased fuel mass and cooler temperatures allow more aggressive tuning. Alas...testing for another day.
Nitrous Express Ntercooler
What It Does: Cools the intake charge of turbo or supercharged cars, increasing air density and power
