Project Car Updates – Living It

Under The Hood Tein Coilovers

'09 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart
When we mounted Ark R8 wheels on our Mitsu, what we failed to mention, quite deliberately, is how we committed the ultimate automotive faux pas: swapping rims prior to lowering. It wasn't completely our fault, however. At the time, no one had a proper set of coilovers for the '09 Lancer Ralliart. But after some pleading and a dozen or so tacos, Philip and Taki at Tein "agreed" to develop a set of their Flex suspension on the car. Now, thanks to Tein, our project vehicle no longer looks ready to tackle the off-road.

After spending four long years of scrounging up enough cash to rebuild its EJ20 engine, my '03 WRX is finally repaired and resting comfortably at my home with 90 percent of its build-up complete. The remaining 10 percent consists of an upcoming engine tune and dreaded smog check before it's ready to hit the streets once again.

In a move I'm sure to regret, I've decided to drive Project DC2 from SoCal to San Francisco for the now-annual Wekfest meet. Don't get me wrong-Wekfest is possibly the sickest show/meet of the year, and I love driving my DC2. But making that drive with it last year, through solid rain and on R-comps, was a borderline bad decision. This year I'll have that, and no heat or stereo to contend with, along with a right-side driveshaft that likes to pop out of the transmission at random. Coverage to come next month. I hope.
