Aluminum Work Made Easy - Tricks Of The Trade

Helping you wrench

Aluminum Diy Cut Metal

Doing your own fabrication work doesn't require owning specialized tools. Sometimes all it takes is some creativity and a little know-how to get the job done. Take for example this aluminum fan shroud that needed some modification to clear the lower radiator hose. A plasma cutter or water jet system would quickly get the job done, but how many of us own one? A more basic approach would be to use a pair of metal sheers or a jig saw, but what if the radius of the cut needed is too small for these tools to maneuver? A simple solution is to use a Dremel with a cut-off wheel (or hack saw), a pair of pliers, and a file: First, outline the cut you need to make, then use that Dremel to cut grooves into the aluminum. With a pair of pliers, carefully bend and break away the aluminum pieces and file smooth any jagged edges. Done.
