Living It Motul

Motul RBF 600

Motul has become a standard when it comes to the braking systems of fast circuit cars. For this reason, RBF 600 brake fluid will be coursing through the brake lines of our Ralliart and the rest of our staff's project fleet for weekend canyon and track abuse. RBF 600 staves off brake fluid boiling (rated at 594 degrees Fahrenheit dry, 421 degrees wet), and maintains viscosity, lubricity, and performance better and longer than most-welcome advantages for those of us who would rather not spend our Friday nights draining and bleeding brake lines.

Baker Brake Lines

My DC2 celebrated its 200K-mile birthday this month, and as a present, I got it some race-ready stainless/Teflon replacement brake lines from Baker Precision. After seeing their custom parts inventory firsthand, I'm also considering picking up an oil cooler and some Dzus fasteners down the road. I even got some brake lines for the Miata, so it wouldn't feel left out. Just don't say anything if you see it on jack stands in front of my house. I'm pretty sure it thinks I left it there to die, and I wouldn't want to ruin the surprise.

ARP Wheel Stud Replacement

This past weekend, I hunkered down in toasty 100+ degree weather to replace the factory wheel studs of my '03 Subaru WRX with a set of ARP extended studs. ARP's heat-treated, 8740 chrome-moly wheel studs have a tensile strength of 190,000 psi and are able to easily handle loads (shear) and lateral forces found in racing. It's highly unlikely my WRX would be able to produce enough force to rip the factory wheel studs off the hubs . . . but it's one less thing to go wrong.
