For people who are sensitive to cops: because the flash is performed on your factory ECU, it is virtually undetectable and easily flashed back to stock ROM when dealing with dealerships or vehicle emissions. Tuning Technologies is able to adjust boost and timing and scale the MAF. It also has three separate high and low octane ignition maps, VVT maps, an increased rev limit (EVO ECU max is at 11,000rpm) and an idle speed control valve to adjust when using larger size camshafts.

Tuning Technologies has a strict rule that only vehicles driven to their Colton, Calif., facility can have the re-flash performed on them. They do not offer a mail-in flash service, which makes perfect sense considering that no two vehicles perform the same and are often found using a mix and match formula of aftermarket components. Seriously, can you expect maximum performance from your vehicle through a mail order service?

In just half a day, Tuning Technologies can bring some serious life into your EVO with their specialized flash and tune session. Paying close attention to the air/fuel ratio, we noticed the EVO was running excessively rich at lower rpm then went to lean conditions from 5500rpm to redline. Running an erratic air\fuel ratio was robbing some serious horsepower and causing some dangerous conditions at higher rpms. Tuning technologies recommends any EVO driven on the street to run a safe a/f ratio on 91 octane pump gas in the range of 11.2:1 to 11.3:1 ratio. After a few pulls to adjust the timing and fuel tables, we were able to safely turn up the boost to 23psi. The Mitsubishi EVO sprung to life as both horsepower and torque numbers were dramatically improved. The largest gains were shown throughout the midrange with the most taking place at 4100rpm showing a gain of 65 lb-ft of torque. More importantly, the dyno graph shifted to the left, which shows engine response, and the consistent 40hp increase from 4000 to 5000rpm will benefit those who look to road race their vehicles on the track.
