Power Pages - 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 MR

2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 Mr Right Front

If you recall, in the January '07 issue of 2NR, we began our first in a series of power pages using a 2006 Mitsubishi EVO MR. Equipped with a Gizmo boost controller set at 20.6psi, K&N drop in high flow air filter, and turbo back Concept G Blue exhaust and downpipe combination, the MR recorded a final dyno run of 298.41 hp and 268.78 lb-ft of torque.

Flirting with the 300 wheel hp marker brought a smile to our faces; until we noticed the EVO's air/fuel was slightly leaner than we wanted. This scenario was the reason why using aftermarket fuel management is an important part in obtaining horsepower. Before we began the next testing phase, we decided to install a Walbro 255lph fuel pump for precautionary reasons and to broaden our safety margin when performing the flash tuning

During the vehicle's downtime, the EVO was outfitted with a Road Race Engineering center differential, Cusco twin-plate clutch and a Cusco lightened chromoly flywheel. A quick spin on the dyno revealed the two-pound reduction in clutch and flywheel combination helped to improve the horsepower and torque from 3800rpm to redline, with gains ranging from 5 to 10 over our previous run. Our new baseline numbers were now recorded at 299.2 hp and 276.6 lb-ft of torque.
